Project Overview

The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to replace the bridge over Stewarts Creek on NC 200 (Morgan Mill Road) in Union County.  the existing bridge is considered structurally deficient which means the existing bridge is considered structurally deficient. A bridge is structurally deficient if it is in relatively poor condition or has insufficient load-carrying capacity

Proposed Improvements:

  • Construction of new bridge east of the existing bridge
    • New bridge will accommodate two 11-foot lanes and 5-foot on either side for potential future sidewalk
  • Realignment of N.C. 200 to connect to new bridge
  • Realignment of Deese Road to connect to N.C. 200 realignment
    • Realignment will provide improved sight distance for motorists turning onto N.C. 200

The existing bridge will remain open during construction.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
