Project Overview

Project HB-0031 would replace the 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th Street bridges that cross U.S. 52 between Downtown Winston-Salem and East Winston.

The project is needed because the bridges were constructed in the early 1960s, and have currently reached the end of their lifespan. The project will also improve pedestrian and bicycle connectivity between Downtown Winston-Salem and East Winston. 

The 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th Street bridges will be replaced with similar structures. All bridges would have sidewalks on both sides, with 3^rd and 4^th Street having designated bike lanes and 5^th Street being a transit-oriented bridge. These designs are consistent with local plans. Design options are in development and may change.
