HB-0035: Price Road Bridge Replacement - Eden
HB-0035: Price Road Bridge Replacement - Eden
The N. C. Department of Transportion proposes to replace the bridge on Price Road over Matrimony Creek in Rockingham County.
Project Overview
The North Carolina Department of Transportation proposes to replace the existing bridge over Matrimony Creek located along Price Road (S.R. 1535) in Rockingham County. Specifically, the project is located approximately 1.15 miles northwest of the center of the City of Eden.
The proposed bridge will include a sidewalk on the southern side of the bridge for pedestrians as well as 5-foot paved shoulders on both sides of the road to accommodate bicyclists. Matrimony Creek Greenway is adjacent to the project to the southeast of the bridge. A portion of the Greenway will be temporarily closed during construction to pave approximately 140-feet from Price Road to the existing paved portion of the trail.
The bridge was constructed in 1961 and has been identified for replacement.
Project Highlights
To minimize impacts to the environment and expedite construction, the bridge will be replaced on existing alignment. During construction, the road will be closed, and a detour will be in place (see below). From the eastern side of the bridge, the detour route will use Center Church Street, S. Hamilton Street, Old State Hwy 770/Washington Street, Shady Grove Road, and Price Road.
Construction is expected to begin in July 2026 and the bridge is anticipated to take about one year to complete.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
