Project Overview

The project proposes replacing two bridges (#330007 and #330295) on N.C. 67 (Silas Creek Parkway) with a new single bridge. One existing bridge is classified as structurally deficient, and the other existing bridge is classified as functionally obsolete.

  • Structurally deficient means that a bridge is in poor condition, or has insufficient load-carrying capacity.

  • Functionally obsolete means that a bridge is narrow, has inadequate under-clearances, has insufficient load-carrying capacity, is poorly aligned with the roadway, and can no longer adequately service today's traffic.

The proposed new bridge will include:

  • Four 12-foot travel lanes
  • A 16-foot center median
  • 5.5-foot sidewalks on each side

The replacement structure will accommodate the proposed Salem Creek Greenway under the bridge.

The Department plans to close Silas Creek Parkway during construction and use the detour route shown below. The overall construction time period will be reduced with full closure and detour.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
