U-5756: N.C. 5 widening - Aberdeen to Pinehurst
NCDOT is proposing to widen N.C. 5 from U.S. 1-15-501/N.C. 211 (North Sandhills Boulevard) in Aberdeen to Blake Boulevard/Trotter Drive in Pinehurst.

Project Highlights
State Transportation Improvement (STIP) Project No. U-5756 involves widening N.C. 5 in Moore County between U.S. 1-15-501/N.C. 211 (North Sandhills Boulevard) in Aberdeen and Trotter Drive/Blake Boulevard in Pinehurst. The project is approximately 4.3 miles long.and is expected to increase capacity and improve safety along N.C. 5.
The project proposes the following:
Pinehurst Street to Turning Leaf Way
N.C. 5 will be widened to a four-lane divided section with a 17.5-foot raised median
A ten-foot wide multi-use path will be provided in this section
Turning Leaf Way to Blake Boulevard /Trotter Drive
N.C. 5 will be widened to a three-lane section with a two-way left-turn lane
A ten-foot wide multi-use path will be provided to from Turning Leaf Way to Linden Road
An 8-foot wide multi-use path will be provided from Linden Road to Dawkins Street
A 6-foot wide multi-use path will be provided from Dawkins Street to Blake Boulevard/Trotter Drive

Proposed Typical Sections
N.C. 5 Typical Section between Pinehurst Street and Linden Road
The proposed roadway typical section along N.C. 5 between Pinehurst Drive and Linden Road includes widening the existing roadway to a 4-lane section (two lanes in each direction) with a 17.5 foot raised median.
N.C. 5 Typical Section between Linden Road and Blake Boulevard/Trotter Drive
The proposed roadway typical section along N.C. 5 between Linden Road and Trotter Drive includes includes widening the existing roadway to a 3-lane section (one lane in each direction and a center turn lane).
The proposed roadway typical section on side streets (known as Y-lines) is one lane in each direction with curb and gutter.
