Project Study Area and Detour Map

During construction, Westbound turns from Robinhood Road onto N.C. 67 will be prohibited.  The yellow dashed line on the map below indicates the recommended southern detour route for this movement.

The green line on the map indicates the recommended northern detour route.

Project Overview

The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing to replace the bridge on Robinhood Road over N.C. 67 in Winston Salem.  The project will remove the existing bridge (built in 1963) and replace it with a new bridge. The current bridge is considered structurally deficient.

Structurally Deficient does not mean that the bridge is unsafe.  A bridge is structurally deficient if it is in relatively poor condition, or has insufficient load-carrying capacity. The insufficient load capacity could be due to the original design or to deterioration.

The proposed bridge will include:

  • Four 11-foot travel lanes

  • A 5.5-foot sidewalk on north side

  • A 5-foot bike lane on north side

  • A 10.5-foot multi-use path on south side

Staged construction will be used in order to maintain traffic during construction.

Westbound left turn movements onto N.C. 67 will be detoured offsite during construction. Two recommended detours are shown on the map above.

  • Yellow  - Robinhood Road to Wellington Road to Yorkshire Road to N.C. 67.Silas Creek Parkway Ramp
  • Green -   Robinhood Rd to Whitaker Ridge Drive to North  Peace Haven Road, to Robinhood Road, to N.C. 67/Silas Creek Parkway Ramp

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road

project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right

of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
