The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes townwide signal system improvements in Apex, Wake County.
Project Area
Project Overview
NCDOT proposes townwide signal system improvements in Apex. These upgrades are designed to improve the safety, efficiency, and operational flexibility of the traffic signals in Apex and the surrounding areas. Improvements will include:
- New traffic signal controllers
- An updated traffic communications system with new fiber optic cables
- Seven new Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras and two new Dynamic Message Signs
- Replacement of older style traffic signal heads with newer flashing yellow arrow heads
- Leading Pedestrian Interval installations, which provide exclusive time for pedestrians to enter the intersection before vehicles, making pedestrians more visible to turning drivers
Improvements are proposed over approximately thirty-two miles of roadway, including N.C. 55, N.C. 540, U.S. 64, U.S. 1, and various other local roads in the general vicinity surrounding downtown Apex.
