Purpose and Need:
STIP project R-5759 proposes to widen N.C. 115 from U.S. 421 to 2nd Street in North Wilkesboro, NC.
As part of the R-5759 project, two traffic roundabouts are proposed: at N.C. 115 and Armory Road/Old U.S. 421, and at N.C. 115 and Speedway Boulevard. Roundabouts tend to increase traffic efficiency and reduce collision risk due to eliminating right-angle and left-turning conflicts. Two options to better facilitate school-bound traffic are under consideration to increase safety, reduce traffic delays, and enhance access to the Wright Elementary School.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
