U-6107: U.S. 17 Intersection Improvements

U-6107: U.S. 17 Intersection Improvements

The NC Department of Transportation is proposing to improve intersection on U.S. 17 at McDaniel Drive / Workshop Lane in Onslow County.

There are two alternatives under consideration for this project:

  • Option 1 proposes conventional intersection improvements to the intersection of U.S. 17 and McDaniel Drive/Workshop Lane, including construction of additional driving lanes and alterations to existing medians

  • Option 2 proposes converting the intersection of U.S. 17 and McDaniel Drive/Workshop Lane to a superstreet by installing concrete islands at the median in the current intersection and constructing U-turn bulbs at the intersections of U.S. 17 and Parkwood Drive and U.S. 17 and Fairway Road.

This project will be reprioritized for funding in the next State Transportation Improvement Program. A schedule for right of way, utilities and/or construction has not been finalized at this time. However, preliminary engineering activities (design, planning, studies) needed for project development are underway.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
