Project Overview:

NCDOT, in cooperation with Marine Corps Air  Station (MCAS) New River is proposing to  upgrade the intersection of U.S. 17/Wilmington Highway and Douglass Road.  These improvements will improve traffic flow  and traffic safety at both MCAS New River Gates.

Proposed Improvements: ​

  • Douglass Road widening for additional ingress lane

  • Installation of traffic signals

 

Additional improvements at this intersection may be made under NCDOT STIP project U-5735, that will make interchange and associated improvements at U.S. 17 (Wilmington Highway) and Old Maplehurst Road near the MCAS New River Main Gate.  

Project U-5735  is programmed in the currently adopted STIP for construction beginning in 2029.

 

Public Input:

Due to Covid 19, NCDOT has suspended in-person meetings.  Information will be provided to the public in a virtual format on this website. The public is encouraged to provide comments using this website or the project phone number or email.  Comments were submitted by February 26, 2021.
