Project Overview
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to improve the mobility and safety along U.S. 264 (Raleigh Road Parkway) from I-95 Northbound Ramps to Airport Boulevard (S.R. 1158/S.R. 1320). The project will evaluate access options and intersections to improve control of access and traffic flow, increase safety throughout the corridor, and accommodate future development.
The proposed improvements would add Reduced-Conflict Intersections for control of access and increased mobility and safety throughout the corridor. A 10’ shared-use path is proposed on the south side of Raleigh Road Parkway throughout the project corridor.
Project History
A need for improvements along the project corridor was identified in the Wilson County Comprehensive Transportation Plan (CTP) (2021) as the corridor is projected to be over capacity in the year 2035. The CTP did not identify any specific improvements due to right-of-way constraints.
This section of U.S. 264 (Raleigh Road Parkway) is currently a 4-lane, median divided highway. The project proposes the implementation of a 4-lane roadway with a median and reduced conflict intersections to improve control of access and increase mobility and safety along the corridor. To alleviate the anticipated congestion and improve mobility and safety, these essential upgrades are required to ensure safer and more efficient travel in the region. The project is not yet funded.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
