IMPROVEMENTS TO THE INTERSECTION OF U.S. 21 BUSINESS AND N.C. 268 IN SURRY COUNTY
Vicinity Map:
Project Overview
The N.C. Department of Transportation is proposing improvements to the intersection of U.S. 21 Business (North Bridge Street) and N.C. 268 (CC Camp Road) including the addition of a dedicated right turn lane on northbound U.S. 21 Business onto eastbound CC Camp Road in Surry County.
Project History
The intersection of U.S. 21 Business and N.C. 268 is a major crossroads in the Town of Elkin located just west of the U.S. 21 Bypass interchange and the I‐77 interchange. U.S. 21 Business links the northern and southern sides of town, running directly through historic downtown Elkin. N.C. 268 provides direct access to western neighbor Wilkesboro and eastern neighbor Pilot Mountain. The proposed project will add a right turn only lane for those traveling from northbound U.S. 21 Business on eastbound CC Camp Road. This intersection improvement will also provide adjacent sidewalks, linking a gap within the existing pedestrian network.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
