Project Overview:

The N.C. department of Transportation proposes to replace the Bridge on Lindsey Bridge Road over the Dan River in Rockingham County.

Project Highlights:

The project proposes to replace the Bridge on Lindsey Bridge Road on new location to the east of its existing location. Construction of the bridge, scheduled to begin in February 2023, is anticipated to take up to 24 months. Lindsey Bridge Road is anticipated to be closed at the project location for up to one month during that timeframe to construct the tie‑in to the existing roadway on the north side of the bridge.

  • During the anticipated one-month closure of the bridge, traffic will be detoured offsite. Traffic will be detoured onto Rierson Road (S.R. 1143), Ellisboro Road (S.R. 1110), Mineral Springs Road (S.R. 1145), and U.S. Highway 311 for approximately eight (8) miles.
  • The proposed bridge will be approximately 543 feet long and 34 feet wide. The proposed bridge typical cross section includes two 11-foot travel lanes and 6-foot paved shoulders on the outside travel lanes.
  • The existing bridge, built in 1957, is considered structurally deficient. This means the bridge, while safe, is in relatively poor condition and/or has insufficient load-carrying capacity, which may be due to the original design or to deterioration.

Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
