Project Highlights:

The purpose of the proposed project is to decrease congestion and enhance mobility.

The improvements include:

  • Improving U.S. 1 from appoximately 200 feet south to about 1,800 feet north of the U.S. 74 interchange in Rockingham,
  • A raised median along U.S. 1. with designated left-lanes from the U.S. 74 interchange north to Springdale Drive (S.R. 1187); and
  • A U-turn bulb (to accommodate trucks) just south of Belle Drive.
  • Two roundabouts on U.S. 1 - U.S. 74 eastbound and westbound ramp intersection.

Public Involvement

Due to COVID-19, NCDOT has suspended in-person meetings.  Information will be provided to the public in a virtual format on this website. The public is encouraged to provide comments or share their thoughts regarding the proposed concept shown below
