U-5973: U.S. 19/Weaverville Hwy and New Stock Road
Preliminary Engineering Activities for this project
have been suspended.
Project Description
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to improve the intersection of U.S. 19 Business (Weaverville Highway) and New Stock Road (S.R. 1740) in Buncombe County. Once complete, the project will improve traffic flow at this intersection and the nearby I-26 interchange. Preliminary planning and engineering work on the project began in November 2017.
Two design alternatives are being evaluated for this project.
Alternative 1 includes:
- Realignment of On and Off Ramps for I-26 Westbound
- Realignment of Blueberry Hill Road with U.S.19 Business controlled by a traffic signal
- Roundabout at Highlander Road
Alternative 2 includes:
- Realignment of On and Off Ramps for I-26 Westbound
- Realignment of Blueberry Hill Road with U.S.19 Business with right-in / right-out access only
- Left turns into Blueberry Hill would be accomplished by making a U-turn
- using the new "bulbout" turnaround between Blueberry Hill and Highlander

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed. The following information explains right of way acquisition and answers questions about the process.
