B-5632: Cypress Creek Road over Back Swamp
B-5632: Cypress Creek Road over Back Swamp
The N.C. Department of Transportation proposes to replace the bridge on Cypress Creek Road over Back Swamp in Duplin County.
The purpose of this project is to provide a safer crossing on Cypress Creek Road over Back Swamp. While the bridge is currently safe for traffic, it has become structurally deficient and is approaching the end of its functional life. A bridge is considered structurally deficient if it is in relatively poor condition or has insufficient load-carrying capacity. The insufficient load capacity could be due to the original design or to deterioration.
The new bridge will:
Span approximately 215 feet
Include two 11-foot lanes; one lane in each direction
Include two-foot shoulders
The new bridge will be located to the south of the existing bridge. During construction, which is expected to last up to two years, traffic will be detoured. The department will provide more information before construction begins.
