The NC Department of Transportation is proposing to construct a roundabout at the intersection of N.C. 710 and Deep Branch Road (S.R. 1339) in Robeson County.
Both N.C. 710 and Deep Branch Road are two lane roads with a 55 mph speed limit that currently intersect under signal control. Left turn lanes are provided on each approach and right turn lanes are provided on the N.C. 710 approaches. There is a pattern of frontal impact crashes due to red light violations and left turn crashes due to vehicles failing to yield. Data indicates that this location does not meet the requirements for adding left turn phasing to the existing signal.
Based on review of this location, it has been determined that this intersection is a good candidate for conversion to a roundabout.

Purpose and Need:
STIP Project W-5706N is located at the intersection of NC 710 and S.R. 1339 (Deep Branch Road) in Robeson County, NC. Both roads at this intersection have 55 mph speed limits and this intersection is currently signalized; however, there is a pattern of frontal impact crashes due to red light violations. There have been 33 crashes here in the past 5 years.
STIP project W-5706N involves constructing a roundabout at the intersection of N.C. 710 and Deep Branch Road to control traffic flow and improve safety at the intersection.

RESOURCES FOR PROPERTY OWNERS
Although the N.C. Department of Transportation works to minimize the number of homes and businesses displaced by a road project, it is inevitable, in many cases, that a certain amount of private property is needed.
