Purpose and Need:

STIP Project U-5939 is located at the intersection of U.S. 17 and Oak Stump Road (S.R. 1145) in Pasquotank County, NC.  The primary purpose of this project is to improve traffic flow and safety at the intersection.

Three alternatives are being considered:

Alternative 1A –

U.S. 17 Business will be realigned to create a signalized, four-legged intersection at U.S. 17 and the northern Elizabeth City Crossings entrance. A roundabout is proposed at the Port Elizabeth Centre entrance on U.S. 17 Business.

Alternative 1B –

U.S. 17 Business will be realigned to create a signalized, four-legged intersection at U.S. 17 and the northern Elizabeth City Crossings entrance.

Alternative 2 –

U.S. 17 Business will be realigned to create a signalized, three-legged intersection at U.S. 17.

Project Funding

This project is listed as Project U-5939 in the N.C. Department of Transportation’s State Transportation Improvement Program (STIP) and is funded for $2.028 million.
